Part 1 Task:
Create a basic System Prototype to show example of Transaction Processing System use in the organization.
You can choose ONE (1) from the following:

- Online Ordering System: Allows customers to place orders online, commonly used in e-commerce and food delivery businesses.
- Reservation and Booking System: Used by hotels, airlines, and other service providers to manage reservations and bookings.
- Banking Transaction System: Facilitates banking transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, and fund transfers.
- Healthcare Information System: Manages patient records, appointments, and billing in healthcare facilities.
- E-commerce Shopping Cart: Enables customers to add products to their carts, proceed to checkout, and complete online purchases.
- Ticketing System: Used by entertainment venues, airlines, and transportation companies for selling and managing tickets.

Chosen System – Online Ordering System
System Overview – the system selected for analysis is online ordering system, and the organisation selected is QuickBite Cafe which is a medium sized restaurant chain having five outlets in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The cafe provides a wide range of meals along with the option of online ordering which is increasing rapidly, but the process followed is a manual order taking process which is time consuming. As a result, the cafe is planning to implement an online food ordering system that will allow its customers to place orders, make online payments and track order status.
System description – the food ordering system is a transaction processing system that records, validates and processes customers orders in real time. On payment, the kitchen will get an intimation to process the food ordered, and the customer will get an order confirmation. The restaurant can update the status from preparing to out for delivery, and finally completed. This will improve the order accuracy, speed up the process and provide a better experience to customers.
System objectives – to allow customers to order food online in real time, process online payments and maintain transaction history, and improve overall customer experience through faster order processing.
System features
User registration – it will allow the user to register using the name, email and phone number, and the restaurant will be able to maintain its customers records.
Food menu browsing – customers would be able to browse food categories which will display images, prices, ingredients and availability. The filter option would allow customers to quickly locate the desired items.
Shopping cart – the customers would be able to add multiple items to the cart before final take out. They can perform modifications like quantities. Remove items and view the total cost.
Online payment – this system supports an online secure payment through credit cards, debit cards, online banking and e-wallets.
Order tracking – the customer should be able to track the progress at different stages including preparation, dispatch and delivery.
Simple flowchart
The process is as follows – customer login – browse menu – select food – add to cart – check out – online payment – payment successful – confirm order – kitchen prepares food – order delivered – end.
Low fidelity prototype
Screen 1 – login page – the user enters email address and password, and new users can sign up.
Screen 2 – homepage – it displays food categories, featured meals, promotions and a search bar. Customers can browse the menu, view product images and place orders.
Screen 3 – shopping Cart – it displays the food items, quantities, prices, delivery charges and the total payment amount.
Screen 4 – payment page – it gives the option to select the preferred payment method, and confirm payment details.
Screen 5 – order confirmation page – the confirmation page displays the order status, payment status, delivery time and the order summary.
Reflective analysis
Designing the prototype for a food ordering system has significantly improved my understanding about transaction processing systems in automatic business operations by processing transactions. I have learnt that an effective system needs to be simple enough to allow for efficient recording of transactions. The Terence that I have faced was to decide on which features were essential without making the product overly complex. The system design can be significantly useful to QuickBite Cafe as it will help in reducing manual order processing, and enhance accuracy and improve the overall experience of customers.
