Bintang Express is a courier service provider and has 12 branches all over Klang Valley. One of the guarantees made by Bintang Express is to deliver parcel within 2 working days and customers are entitled for a 10% discount if the guarantee is not fulfilled. For the past few weeks, the manager of Bintang Express received a number of unfavorable feedback with regards to the parcel’s delivery time and he thinks it should be investigated. Therefore, the manager requested his staff to collect data pertaining to delivery time from 50 customers.
By utilizing the one sample hypothesis testing, is there evidence that the data collected for the delivery time supports the claim made by the customers? Provide your conclusion based on the critical value and p-value approaches.
1) Complete all the values for the above table (9 Marks)
2) Identify whether the hypothesis is one-tailed or two-tailed. (2 Marks)
3) State the null and alternative hypothesis (4 Marks)
4) State your conclusion based on the following approaches: (4 Marks)
Question 2
Putra Genius is an academic center specializing in providing English proficiency training for students from the age of 7 up to 12 years old. Recently, the center would like to assess the performance of the students based on the score they obtained for speaking and writing. Therefore, data was collected from 35 students. By using two sample hypothesis testing, examine the hypothesis that the mean score for speaking and writing is different from zero or not.
1) Classify whether the sample is independent or dependent. (2 Marks)
2) Identify whether the hypothesis is one-tailed or two-tailed. (2 Marks)
3) State the null and alternative hypothesis (4 Marks)
4) Analyze the score for speaking and writing by using the Ms Excel Data Analysis ToolPak. Show the output table below: (5 Marks)
5) State your conclusion based on the following approaches: (4 Marks)
Question 3
A survey was conducted by Excel Telco to investigate how customer satisfaction can be influenced by the services delivered by their employees. Thus, a team was established to perform data collection from 50 customers. The aspects of services that were included in the survey includes responsiveness, empathy, and assurance. Based on the data given, perform regression analysis to answer all the questions listed below.
1) State whether the analysis will involve simple linear or multiple regression. (2 Marks)
2) State the null and alternative hypothesis (4 Marks)
3) Analyze the relationship between independent and dependent variables by using the Ms Excel Data Analysis ToolPak. Show the output table below: (5 Marks)
Experts Answer on Above Statistics Questions
| One-Sample Hypothesis Testing | Value |
|---|---|
| n (number of sample) | 50 |
| μ (parameter) | 2 days |
| α (significant level) | 0.05 |
| X̄ (average/mean of sample) | 2.35 days |
| s (standard deviation of sample) | 0.80 days |
| V (square root of n) | 7.071 |
| t-value / t-test | 3.09 |
| critical t-value | 1.677 |
| p-value | 0.0016 |
Type of hypothesis
One tailed (right-tailed)- The main focus of the investigation is to determine whether the average delivery time is more than two working days.
Hypothesis – Null hypothesis is less than equal to 2 days. The average delivery time does not exist two working days.
Alternative hypothesis – alternative hypothesis is greater than equal to 2 days. The average daily time exceeds two working days.
Conclusion
Critical value approach – the t-value at calculated is 3.09 and critical t-value is 1.677. Since 3.09>1.677, the decision is to reject the null hypothesis.
From the analysis it is concluded that there is sufficient evidence that the average delivery time exceeds 2 working days and it implies that the customers’ complaints are supported.
p-value approach – the P value is 0.0016 and a=0.05. Since 0.0016<0.05, the decision is to reject the null hypothesis, and it is concluded that the average parcel delivery time is greater than two working days. This clearly supports the claims of customers that deliveries are taking longer than the guaranteed delivery period.
