After writing your introduction, identify and explore the strategic direction of your department, and the role HR plays in achieving the department’s strategic objectives. Matters that you may refer to are: the definition of HR as relevant to your department; the National Development Plan; all relevant legislation; the strategic HR framework; general aspects of the HR value chain and the key activities of HR; and the role of leadership in achieving the strategic objectives.

Analyse your department’s approach to HR in terms of:
• The new management paradigm;
• Relevant legislation; and
• A systems approach.
You should, for example, clearly explain whether your department has adopted a new management paradigm. Show how a systems approach can help your department to move into the new paradigm, and how the HR value chain is linked to the HR activities in the organisation.

Critically assess the diversity management process that is being implemented in the Limpopo Department of Basic Education, and explain how this impacts the department’s teams.

Examine the impact of leadership within your department. You should focus on the styles and theories of leadership that are being applied, and how these are linked to motivational models.
